Kennedy ‘23-’24 MSDE Report Card Now Available

The data from the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE)’s Report Card for all schools in the state was released at the beginning of the month and is now available. Attached you’ll find a PDF of the latest Report Card for John F. Kennedy High School, which is based on 2023-2024 school year data. You can access the Report Card directly on MSDE’s website as well.

The data that informs this Report Card is assessed and utilized not only by the state, but also by MCPS and as part of the School Improvement Plan( SIP). Parents can and should participate in their school’s SIP. We are currently trying to work with Kennedy school leadership to understand when parental input in the SIP will be possible, which should be sometime in January. If this Report Card spurs questions that you’d like to see addressed in the SIP, please reach out and ask and also let us know if you’d like to participate as a parent in upcoming SIP reviews. In addition to the MSDE, you can also access MCPS’s Parent, Student and Staff Climate Survey results for 2023-2024 which are also supposed to inform the SIP and are also attached for your convenience.

To see what the district-level response to the 2023-2024 Report Card data was, you can review MCPS’s press release, as well as look at a few news reports that put this data in context at the state level.

Examining, interpreting and engaging with our school data is one of the most critical and important ways parents can work to impact and improve schools. So please don’t hesitate to reach out and ask questions.

Internship and Apprenticeship Opportunities

Kennedy’s Internship Coordinator Ms. Erika Furr has a number of internship and apprenticeship opportunities available to Cavaliers. Please find the attached fliers for more information and reach out to Erika_W_Furr@mcpsmd.org if you have any questions. Ms. Furr will also present additional information on the internship/apprenticeship program at our January PTSA meeting on Jan. 21.

Support Kennedy Family in Need

A community member who is working with a Kennedy family who arrived recently in the country and is facing deportation, reached out to the PTSA and looking to raise awareness as the family seeks to generate funds to help with their relocation to Mexico. If you’d like to help, please donate via the family’s GoFundMe.

SAVE THE DATE: Jan. 21 PTSA Meeting

We are currently building out the agenda for our January PTSA meeting on Jan. 21 at 6:30 pm in the Media Center and on Zoom. If you have items you’d like to discuss or add to the agenda, please reach out and we will work with you to see if we can build it into the program.

Sincerely,
